Vault Mode now available!

by Jani on May 5th, 2023

Vault Mode is now generally available for all PhotoVaultOne customers. Vault Mode provides an additional and optional layer of privacy protection for your data while it is stored and processed by PhotoVaultOne.

The technical implementation of Vault Mode is described separately. This post focused on the value of Vault Mode, and how to use it.

What is Vault Mode

When Vault Mode is enabled, your content is encrypted in a way that makes it unreadable to everyone without your personal vault key - PhotoVaultOne included. We will continue to make a backup of your content every day, and store the content each day in such a way that only your personal vault key can open it.

Vault Mode provides absolutely privacy of your stored content, and is designed for the most privacy-focused customers.

How to enable Vault Mode

To enable Vault Mode, login to the service console, and head to the "Manage Account" page. There you can find a section where Vault Mode can be enabled.

Click Enable Vault Mode to begin the process. Confirm the information on the first page to move to the second page:

Here you will see your randomly generated vault key. Safely store the key, and move to the last phase:

Confirm vault mode by entering your vault key.

The system will now in the background re-encrypt your content, which will take a few minutes to complete.

Now that vault mode is enabled, whenever you login to the service console, you will need your vault key to be able to browse and restore your content.

Summary

Vault Mode provides absolutely privacy of your stored content, and is designed for the most privacy-focused customers.

We will continue to every day download and store your latest media files. Only you can access your stored content, as the content is protected by your vault key - known only by you.
